We settled on Charlie's new home -- a condo in downtown Washington, DC -- on March 9, 2007. Despite some serious disorganization on the part of Champion Title Company, we made it through relatively easily. (Champion Title's very nice office next to the Mayflower Hotel on Connecticut Ave almost made up for the inconvenience. Almost.) The builder, Faison, hasn't gotten around to all the items on our punch list yet (notably, in the photos below, replacing the badly scratched balcony doors and perfecting the stainless steel tile surround in the kitchen), but we have no reason to believe that things will be less than perfect when we move in on the 23rd.
We were originally going to use an interior decorator to help plan out the best uses of and colors for our downsized existence. After making quite a few calls, I discovered it would be months before a designer would be available. So, I went the way of all impatient people and am now determined that we'll do it (or at least try to do it) ourselves.
So with this blog you'll be able to track our DIY interior design adventure. These first photos are of the bare bones of the condo.
Fancy kitchen, gorgeous floors -- but what to do with this curious little space!?! We already have some ideas in the works. Have some ideas that might be helpful to us? Saw an amazing room in a magazine or, better yet, at a friend's place that you think we'd be crazy not to copy? Have your own home all perfectly settled but still plagued by a bit of the designing bug? Email us at
terripayne@gmail.com or use the Comments option below to share your ideas with us. We can't wait to see what you'll come up with.
We'll keep you posted!
